Chemical Educational Foundation The Chemical Educational Foundation (CEF) is a non-profit organization located in Arlington, Virginia. Created in 1992, CEF is dedicated to fostering a greater understanding of the science of chemistry and the benefits of chemicals.
The Foundation’s programs and publications serve as a resource for chemical industry members, such as Dow, to use in outreach and product stewardship programs in their communities. This includes CEF’s flagship program, the You Be The Chemist (YBTC) kit. The kit, designed for grades K-8, is a highly effective teacher’s aid that makes chemistry concepts fun and easy for students and educators. The kit includes thirty lesson plans, a teacher’s manual, homework assignments, and a resource guide for chemical industry representatives. Two newly created animated characters, Newton and Kelvin, are featured in the DVD contained in the kit. CEF programs such as the YBTC kit are sustained through the generous support of contributors, such as Dow. Dow was one of the initial sponsors of CEF, reinforcing Dow’s commitment to safe use, handling, and product stewardship of chemicals, along with chemistry education. For more information, please visit the CEF Web site or contact CEF staff at 703-527-6223. |
