2005 Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair

Indiana - April 12, 2005

Jerome Peribere, Dow AgroSciences president and CEO, speaks to one of the students participating in the Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair about her project.
Dow AgroSciences (DAS) Global Headquarters was the location of the 2005 Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair (HSEF) on April 2. Indiana high school and middle school science students participated in the HSEF hosted by DAS.

The HSEF participants were the two top place high school students from each of the 12 Indiana Regional Science and Engineering Fairs and high school runners-up and middle school regional science fair winners.

The 24 regional fair winners are automatically invited to compete in the 2005 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) which is in Phoenix, Arizona and two additional high school seniors were selected to also compete in the 2005 Intel ISEF. The HSEF allows the students to further polish their presentations before they compete with students from around the globe at the Intel ISEF.

Over 100 judges from academia and industry judged the students and their exhibits, a number of these judges were current and retired DAS employees.

In the afternoon, Jerome Peribere, president and CEO, spoke to the students regarding their role in the future of science and technology in Indiana. "Dow AgroSciences is very proud to sponsor this event because we believe in the power of good ideas, and are looking for the next generation of scientists and engineers to help us find more good ideas," said Peribere. "You now have experience doing the hardest thing we do every day - using science and engineering to come up with good ideas that we can explore to find solutions for our customers."

Peribere announced the winners of Presidential Classroom Awards, sponsored by The Dow Chemical Company. The winner(s), Erin Rosswurm and Jonathan Bell, each receive an all-expense paid trip to participate in the Science, Technology and Public Policy Program of the Presidential Classroom program being held in Washington D.C in June.

HSEF is organized annually in early April by the Science Education Foundation of Indiana (SEFI), a not-for-profit dedicated to raising awareness to strengthen science education in Indiana.
